The cast figural Salt Cellars are modelled as a male and female pedlar in period Georgian dress each holiding a wicker basket, with gilt interior. Each stands on a plain, shaped, platform base. The detail of the clothing, shoes and hats is quite exceptional. The female pedlar is holding a flower, obviously being a flower seller and the male figure holding a bunch of grapes. The baskets would have contained the salt, hence their gilded interiors. This type of salt cellar are extremely rare and sought after, examples seldom appearing on the market. Each is stamped with the retailers mark of Hunt & Roskell, Late Storr & Mortimer and the number 619. The firm of Benson was purchased by Hunt & Roskell in 1889.

Height: 6.6 inches, 16.5cm.
