The Rattle has a beautifully shaped baluster shaft chased in various locations with foliate scrolls and raying flower heads on a matted ground.  The rattle has eight original bells chased with leaves and the band above where the coral is attached in decorated with acanthus spears below pluming scrolls.  The coral is attached to the silver shaft by a scalloped section which also displays five crisp hallmarks.  The mouth piece displays the usual suspensory ring and is also chased with scrolls, foliate motifs, flowers and trellis work.  In addition this area of chasing displays a pineapple motif, which is most unusual.  Pineapples were extremely expensive at this date and were a great symbol of wealth.  The rattle also displays a crisp maker's mark on the mouth piece.

Length: 5.1 inches, 12.75 cm
