The Vinaigrette is broad rectangular in form with shaped sides. The incuse sides are decorated with engine turning and the base with different bands of engine turning around a scroll cartouche containing a contemporary Crest. The cover is engraved with a very unusual scene featuring a detailed Windmill with a lake, and promontories with buildings and hills against a rayed sky. The engraving has been executed to a very high standard.
The interior displays exceptional gilding and a grille pierced and engraved with pluming scrolls within a bright cut frame. The interior is very well marked, including a maker’s mark on the underside of the grille. The Windmill scene is a very rare subject to find on a Vinaigrette, especially by Nathaniel Mills.
