This rare box is broad rectangular in form and, unusually, displays a raised fruiting vine on the cover on a corded ground with a plain oval frame. The outer area of the cover is decorated with crisp wriggle work designs and the sides with prick dot bands. The slightly curved base displays a central diamond decorated with chequered designs and foliate sprigs. The interior is finely gilded and displays a grille pierced with diamond motifs, simulating a flower head. The box is very well marked, including a sterling mark on the underside of the grille.
Length: 1.45 inches, 3.63 cm.
Width: 1 inch, 2.5 cm.
