The Pail stands on a corded foot. The main body displays an unusual wavy beaded rim and the sides are divided into vertical panels pierced and engraved with trailing foliate scrolls and pretty flower heads.  In addition, the sides display exotic birds at rest and in flight, a design which Francis Spilsbury was famous for. The piercing has been executed to the highest standard and the front displays a vacant, shaped, cartouche. The Pail also displays a twisted arched handle and a blue glass liner. This piece is in quite excellent condition and, although unmarked, was almost certainly made by Francis Spilsbury.  A near identical example is shown in our archive which is marked with his maker's mark only.  This particular pail was formerly within the World famous "Albert Collection" of Silver and is illustrated on page 77 of the collection catalogue, which is attached.  Francis Spilsbury is recognised as one of the finest pierced workers of the second half of the 18th century
