The Wine Coasters are circular in form with a spreading stepped base and a beaded rim. The sides are pierced with plain vertical pails decorated with Neo-Classical foliate garlands interspersed with flower heads with Classical medallions, of unusual design. The Wine Coasters have their original turned wooden bases, with central ivory boss. The front of each piece is also engraved with a double headed eagle Crest, issuing from the Coronet of a Duke. Wine Coasters were first introduced into England circa 1765-70, therefore these represent an early example. Both are in excellent condition and are marked on the vertical pails.
