The Cups stand on an applied pedestal foot which is decorated with reeding. The inverted bell shaped main body has an everted rim and an applied beaded girdle around the centre of the cup. Both have scroll handles which are decorated with leaf capping. The front of each cup is engraved with a set of contemporary initials. The cups are in excellecnt condition, are of a good gauge and display a fine patina. Both are crisply marked on the side of the main body.

Pair of Loving Cups from Ireland are rare, it is thought that the two handles allowed the passing of the cup from one person to another as a token of friendship, or for drinking a celebratory toast. Work by Richard Tudor is especially scarce and does not appear on the market often. Tudor was a respected silversmith and was elected to the prestigious position of Master in 1771-72.
