136607
The Jug stands on a square base with a circular pedestal foot. The helmet shaped body is most unusually decorated with Bat Wing fluting. The rim is decorated with applied reeding and this piece displays a high reeded loop handle. The front of the main body is engraved with a contemporary Crest, with a script initial below. The Crest is that as used by the Stevenson family of Ounston, Derbyshire and Lincolnshire. The work of Podio and Peterson is scarce and much sought after due to its exceptional quality and restrained Classical designs. They had workshops at 23, Primrose Hill, Salisbury Square, Fleet Street, when this Jug was made.
