The Inkwell is of a large size and broad rectangular in form.  This piece has an unusual oval cover with reeded edge and unusual foliate capped screw down lock.  The cover is beautifully engraved with a contemporary Armorial, with Crest above and Motto below.  This is all surrounded by a cartouche of foliate scroll work.  The quality of this piece is outstanding as the interior is gilded and the underside of the cover, leather lined.  We have traced the Armorial and conclude that it is that as used by the Fyler family of Heffleton, Dorset and Woodlands Surrey.  This unusual piece is in excellent condition and is very well marked.
