This exceptionally rare silver gilt Creamboat stands on an oval cast foot.  The elongated main body is decorated with a lower band of acanthus spears, below a horizontal raised band of Greek Key motifs.  The thick gauge angular handle displays a most finely detailed Salamander handle, climbing up its length, with beautifully textured skin and detailed face.  It also displays a foliate moulding where its tail meets the main body.  This piece is in quite excellent condition, is of a very good weight and is fully marked on the side of the main body.  The creamboat was retailed by the Royal firm of Rundell, Bridge & Rundell and is engraved on the foot with " Rundell, Bridge & Rundell. Aurifices Regis et Principis Walliae Regentis Britannias".  The Creamboat is beautifully made in sections, showing the finest quality in design and production, as to be expected from this highly important silversmith.  The base also displays the pattern number 338 and its original assay slither from when it was sent for hallmarking in 1812.  This piece was formerly contained within the Dr Christine & James Chance Collection, possibly the most important collection of sauce and creamboats formed at the end of the 20th century.  Some of their collection was bequeathed to the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford and is now on display in the museum silver galleries.  For a very short period, Paul Storr and John Bridge made pieces incorporating animals, and insects, into the design.
