NATHANIEL MILLS. An exceptional William IV Silver Gilt Snuff Box made in Birmingham in 1834 by Nathaniel Mills.

The Snuff Box is silver gilt and has a deep broad rectangular form.  The base is decorated with an engine turned panel, around a plain frame, and outer cast border chased with flower heads, shells and scrolls.  The incuse sides are also decorated with engine turning and the plain cover displays a beautiful cast, shaped, border decorated with flower heads in bloom and foliate scrolls. The centre is also engraved with a contemporary family Crest.  The cover opens up to reveal a finely gilded interior.

This box is of the exceptional quality which Nathaniel Mills was known for, being the finest, most prolific,  box maker working in Birmingham during this period.  This piece is very well marked and is in excellent condition, having seen hardly any use over the centuries.
