The Snuff Box is modelled in the escutcheon form which was very fashionable at this date The cover and base are inset with two exceptionally beautiful shaded agate panels. The base agate has a deep shaped form and both show unusual fossilised foliate sprays. The cover displays a gold border decorated with trailing foliage and flower heads in bloom, it also has a protruding thumb piece decorated with Rococo shell details. The side gold mounts are also beautifully chased with floral sprays and Rococo shell details. The decoration is in very crisp condition. This example was made by a very skilled box maker and is of the finest quality in terms of design and production.
