An exceptional Charles II Porringer made in London in 1672 by John Sutton.

The Porringer is of a baluster form and rises to a flared plain rim. The main body is beautifully decorated with daffodils and tulips, surrounded by wavy prick dot bands. The handles are cast in the S scroll design and chased with scroll work. The base displays a very crisp set of hallmarks and the porringer is in excellent condition, with a good colour. John Sutton was a quality maker, who specialised in the production of porringers. This form of decoration is not seen often and appears predominantly after the restoration of the Monarchy in 1660. Charles II was attracted by the floral decoration which he had seen while he was in exile on the continent, particularly in Holland.
