The Vinaigrette is broad rectangular in form and the cover displays very unusual finely detailed raised foliate motifs around an engine turned panel and rectangular vacant cartouche. The sides and base are also decorated with engine turning enclosed by a cast floral and foliate border. The interior is finely gilded and displays a grille pierced and engraved with flower heads and foliate scrolls. The interior is also very well marked. The work of John Tonge is scarce, however is of exceptional quality in terms of production and design. This box is contained within its original velvet lined red Moroccan leather case.
