The Snuff Box is broad rectangular in form, with a crisp cast floral edge on the cover and base. The sides are decorated with reeding and the base and cover with crisp tartan pattern. The cover also displays a vacant shield shaped cartouche and this example has a protruding thumb piece decorated with pluming scrolls and sea shells. The interior is very well marked and displays exceptional original gilding. Queen Victoria and Prince Albert first visited Scotland together in 1842 and thereafter Scottish items and designs became more popular in England.
