This very rare box has a dual purpose as an oyster gauge and pocket snuff box. This piece is cast and is realistically modelled and textured to simulate an Oyster Shell. The box opens up to reveal a finely gilded interior which is fully marked in the base and on the bezel of the cover. Oyster Guages are extremely rare, especially when they double up as a Snuff Box. A silimar example is illustrated in, "The Collector's Dictionary of the Silver and Gold of Great Britain and North America", by Michael Clayton, page 198 and was made for the Corporation of Colchester.

Length: 2.2 inches, 5.5cm.
Width, at the widest point: 1.75 inches, 4.38cm.
