The Nutmeg Grater is of a large size, with reeded rounded sides. The hinged cover is engraved with very unusual pluming foliate scroll designs, on a scratch engraved ground, all surrounding a rectangular cartouche engraved with contemporary script initials. The base displays a foliate spray and central flower head, contained within a wriggle work and prick dot frame. The interior opens up to reveal a hinged, silver rimmed, steel grater. This unusual piece is in excellent condition and is very well marked on both the inside of the cover and base.
