This is possibly the finest travelling inwell we have offered over the years, by this very rare and superior box maker. This piece is silver gilt and broad rectangular in form, being decorated with engine turned designs surrounded by a plain frame. The hinged cover is also decorated with engine turned designs and displays a circular vacant cartouche. This section unscrews and displays an unusual fastener decorated with rope work. This piece is of the finest quality in terms of design and production and is very well marked. Henry Tippen was a quite exceptional box maker, however examples of his work are very rare.
