The silver gilt teaspoon is modelled in the trefid style, with an unusual trefoil end to the stem. The reverse of the bowl displays a reeded rat tail and the stem is very well marked with the makers mark of the specialist spoonmaker, John Clifton. This piece is in excellent condition and is one of the earliest teaspoons we have ever offered for sale. He was apprentice to the prolific Charles II Spoon maker, John King. Table spoon size examples are common at this date, however teaspoons are very scarce.
