The Sweetmeat basket stands on an oval foot decorated with cording and pierced with quatre foils, horizontal bands and roundels. The gadrooned shaped rim is interspersed with Rococo shells and the main body is divided into panels by beaded bands. These panels are pierced with quatre foils, scroll work and four leaf clovers. The basket is well marked and has a pierced arched handle. William Plummer was a specialist pierced worker, who made fine baskets for a variety of purposes.
