A very rare Armorial Wine Label made for the Vansittart family in London in 1837 by Edward & John Barnard.

The label is beautifully modelled as an eagle's head, the two wings elevated, all resting on two crosses below.  The label is engraved to the finest standard and is pierced for MADEIRA.  This piece is well marked and is beautifully modelled.  This Crest is as used by the Vansittart family of Shottesbrook, County Berkshire.  the family were descended from William Van Sittart of Dantzig whose son Peter Van Sittart settled in England  and died in 1705.  Another label from this set is illustrated in "Wine Labels - A Worldwide History" page 95.
