The Teapot is modelled in the oval straight sided form, a popular designed produced in the Bun Hill Row workshops of Hester Bateman. The base displays a beaded band and the sides are beautifully engraved with finely detailed floral garlands, tied with paterae The sides display an upper and lower horizontal bright cut band and a navette shaped cartouche, one side containing a set of contemporary script initials. The neck and slightly domed cover is decorated with beading and an eclectic mix of bright cut and prick dot designs. The tapering straight spout, displays a bright cut band and the fruit wood handle is attached to the main body with reeded tubular sockets. The cover terminates in a fruit wood and silver pineapple finial, a symbol of wealth and status at this date. The Teapot is in quite excellent condition and is fully marked on the underside of the main body and with the maker's mark and sterling mark on the cover.
