This rare example is modelled as a Milk Maids Pail and has a corded base, rim and arched handle. The sides are beautifully chased with foliate sprays and flower heads as well as vertical pails and entwined bands. The front of the Pail also displays a vacant Rococo shaped cartouche and this piece has a pale green liner, appropriate for being Irish ! The Pail is in excellent condition and is marked in the piercing with a good makers mark, Hibernia and crowned harp. This is only the second Irish example, modelled as a Milk Maids Pail, we have offered in nearly fifty years and few examples are known. The only example we have found illustrated on page 135 of Irish Georgian Silver, by Douglas Bennett.
Height: 4.5 inches, 11.25cm.
Diameter at the rim: 3.25 inches, 8.13cm
