An exceptional pair of George III Sauce Tureens made in London in 1785 by Daniel Smith & Robert Sharp.

The Tureens stand on a cast oval pedestal foot which is decorated with a band of beading. The Boat shaped main body also displays a beaded rim and a lower wide band of flat fluting. The domed covers also display flat fluting and terminate in a cast urn finial decorated with acanthus spears and berries. Each Tureen has two reeded loop side handles and both the cover and main body are engraved with a contemporary Crest. Each piece is fully marked on the foot and with the makers mark and sterling mark on the cover. The quality of design and production, seen in these Tureens, is exceptional, as one would expect from these makers who worked extensively for the Prince of Wales, later George IV, when he was furnishing his Carlton House residence.
