A George IV two handled Bowl made in London by John Bridge in 1824
120739
This very fine piece was made by the Royal silversmith, John Bridge and stands on a circular foot which is decorated with a band of lobing. The baluster shaped main body is decorated with wide bat wing fluting and displays an everted rim decorated with anthemions, Rococo shells and acanthus foliage. The two naturalistic side handles are attached to the main body with oak leaf and acorn mouldings. The Bowl displays original interior gilding and is very well marked in the foot. The work of John Bridge is nearly always exceptional in terms of design and execution. He was appointed, together with Philip Rundell, as Goldsmith and Jeweller to King George III, as early as 1797.
