The Case is of cylindrical form, with a four lugged stand away hinged, domed, cover with scalloped edge.  The cover opens by pressing the protruding release button and the base is deeply engraved with the 17th century seal of the original owner, incorporating the Coat of Arms and Crest.  The exterior is profusely engraved with foliate pluming scrolls, acanthus spears and trellis designs, typical of the William & Mary period.  This piece is in quite excellent condition and displays a crisp maker's mark.  These cases are exceptionally rare and would have been used to carry a stick of sealing wax and then the seal matrix would have been used to make an impression in the wax, while sealing the letter.

Height: 3.5 inches.

Width: 0.75 inches.
