The Bowl is of a circular form, with deep bowl and flat base. Each side displays a "S" scroll handle and the base is engraved with the contemporary marriage initials "P over T*A". The bowl is in quite excellent condition and is constructed of a very thick gauge of silver. This piece would have been used on the tea table and they are often termed "slop bowls" where the leaves from the mote skimmer could have been placed after straining. These pieces do not survive in great quantities, from this period, and this is one of the earliest bowls, of this type, which we have seen over the years. Bentley had workshops in Tooley Street when this piece was made and was for some time in partnership with the candlestick maker, Robert Trimbrell.
