The top section of the case consists of the thimble case, with tapering sides and a hinged cover with suspensory ring on top. The slender tapering bottom section was used to keep the needles in. The exterior is beautifully scratch engraved with acanthus leaf motifs and pluming scrolls. The cover is decorated with a central flower head. This example is in excellent condition and is well marked on the side with the makers mark of WF, with a crown above, for William Fawdery. Very few of these cases were made and this piece is a rare survivor from this period.
