The Sauceboat stands on three cast foliate scroll feet which are attached to the main body with chased foliate sprays. The main body is of a large size, with shaped rim, and is chased with beautiful floral and foliate garlands. The front, under the lip, displays a Rococo shell and scroll cartouche, engraved with a contemporary Crest. The scroll handle is decorated with leaf capping and is attached to the main body with chased shell motifs. The base is very well marked and engraved with its original scratch weight. The weight and quality of design and production is exceptional, as one would expect from these rare makers. Francis Butty was of Huguenot descent, which would account for the quality of this piece.
