The Mug has a stepped tucked in base which is decorated with reeding. The plain main body has slightly tapering sides and an everted rim. The plain scroll handle is engraved with two sets of contemporary initials, possibly for a marriage. This piece has a good colour and is very well marked in the foot. Richard Bayley had workshops in Foster Lane when this piece was made. He was elected Warden of the Goldsmiths Company in 1746-8 and achieved the prestigious position of Prime Warden of the company in 1751.
