Egg Vinaigrettes are very rare, especially if they fall into the 18th century. This example is modelled as an egg and is plain in design, with a serpentine shaped thumb piece. The hinged cover opens up to show exceptional gilding and a very unusual removable, domed, grille pierced with plain roundels. This example is in excellent condition and is very well marked on both the base and the cover. Vinaigrettes of any design are very rare from the eighteenth century, especially when they are modelled as an egg. Length: 1.5 inches, 3.75 cm.
Diameter at the rim: 1 inch, 2.5 cm.
