The Tongs are of typical Irish form with shaped arms and an arched top. The arms are beautifully engraved with bright cut bands and an oval cartouche containing a very unusual contemporary Crest. The wide corrugated grips are decorated with pretty floral sprays and bright cut borders. These rare tongs are in excellent condition and seldom appear on the market. They are fully marked on the inside of the arched top and could be used for serving a variety of things on the dining table. Benjamin Tait was an exceptional maker of unusual serving pieces during the late 18th century.
