The Snuff Box is of a small size and was most probably for the use of a Lady. This piece is broad rectangular in form with cut corners. The cover is engraved with diamond motifs containing flower heads, similar to the silk weavers designs which were made in Spitalfields, and sometimes engraved on silver, particularly tea caddies. The sides are decorated with prick dot bands and ovals containing foliate motifs. The base is engraved with the contemporary inscription " Miss W Ballock, a present from Mr A Morehead." Which indicates that it may well have been a love token. The inscription is surrounded by an engraved frame of prick dot designs and foliate motifs. The box is in excellent condition, has a finely gilded interior and is very well marked.

Length: 1.9 inches, 4.75cm.
