The Snuff Box has an unusual slender broad rectangular form. The incurved sides are engraved with prick dot bands and chequered designs. The cover is very unusually engraved with trailing vines and vine leaves around a vacant oval cartouche, all on a finely engraved prick dot ground. The base is also decorated with the same designs which are seen on the cover, and this is the first time we have seen this particular design. The interior displays deep original gilding and crisp hallmarks. Snuff boxes by William Pugh are scarce, however they are always of the finest quality in terms of design and production.
