An extremely rare George III Tea Caddy made in Edinburgh in 1806 by John McDonald.

Tea Caddies from Scotland are extremely rare as very few were made during the Georgian period. The example we offer for sale is of an unusual size and is rectangular in form with cut corners and a flat hinged cover which terminates in a pineapple finial. The sides and cover are engraved with borders of entwined trailing foliage, on a scratch engraved ground. The upper band also displays foliate garlands and scratch engraved panels. The front of the Tea Caddy displays a vacant octagonal cartouche surrounded by a sunburst frame, with foliate garlands above and crossed branches below. The Caddy is in excellent condition and the decoration is very crisp. The base displays a full set of hallmarks. The decoration is certainly different to that seen in London at this date.
