This piece is modelled as a book.  The front and reverse are decorated with unusual filigree zig-zag and scroll work and a central navette shaped frame containing scroll work and an unusual tear drop motif in each corner.  The centre also displays a disc shaped cartouche engraved with a contemporary script initial "W" below the Coronet of an Earl, so almost certainly relating to his Countess.  The filigree spine is decorated with scroll work and wave designs and the case has a filigree working clasp.  The clasp opens up to reveal felt leaves with braid on the edges.  This piece is in excellent condition.
