Double Wine Coasters are extremely rare, especially with carrying handles. Each Coaster is of a circular form with stepped base and an everted rim decorated with gadrooning. The sides are beautifully pierced with pluming foliate scroll work and flower heads. The coasters are joined in the centre and display two outer gadrooned carrying handles with foliate motifs where they are attached to the main body. Each has its original turned box wood base, with central silver button boss engraved with a contemporary Crest. This piece is in quite excellent condition and is very well marked. It is only the second example which we have offered over all of the years. William Allen III was a very fine pierced coaster maker with workshops at 35 Noble Street when this piece was made. This piece is in excellent condition and is very well marked on each coaster. A very desirable piece of wine related antique silver
