£1,950

Each are modelled in the Old English Thread pattern, which is double struck, the pattern being on the front and the reverse.  They are both engraved at the top of the stem with a contemporary Crest which is that as used by the Egerton family, the main branch of which were the Earls and Dukes of Bridgewater.  The Spades are of a very good weight and are in excellent condition.

As you will appreciate Ice Spades were used for serving Ice Cream and Sorbets which would have been made from ice harvested from the lakes in the winter, on the estate, and kept in the ice house underground until the Summer months.  Eley and Fearn were some of the finest flatware makers of the period and this can be clearly seen with these items.
