A very fine pair of George III Classical Drinking Goblets made in London in 1776 by William Grundy.

The Goblets have a very elegant form and stand on a circular pedestal foot decorated with bold beading and acanthus spears. The foot rises to a second beaded band, where it meets the vase shaped body, and the bowl is also decorated with a second band of acanthus spears, in sizes, below a contemporary Crest on a chapeau. Both pieces are in excellent condition, have gilded interiors and are fully marked on the side of the main body. They are of a very good gauge of silver. The Crest is that as used by a member of the extended Howard family.
William Grundy was apprenticed to Edward Vincent in 1731 and entered his first mark as a large worker on 23rd December, 1743. He wad workshops in Fetter Lane when these beautiful Goblets were made.

Diameter at the rim of the bowl: 3.5 inches, 8.75 cm.
