These exceptional Tapersticks are cast and have stepped square bases decorated with gadrooning, which rise to a section of swirling bat wing fluting. The baluster shaped shaft is decorated with reeding, gadrooning and ropework on the sockets. Both pieces are in quite excellent condition and both are very well marked. Pairs of Tapersticks are rare, especially modelled in this design. The weight of both pieces is quite exceptional. John Hyatt was a very fine silversmith who specialised in candle related silver.
