A rare & unusual pair of George III Tureens made in London in 1804 by Peter Podio.

The Tureens stand on a square pedestal foot which rises to a circular main body with everted gadrooned rim. The two harp shaped handles are most unusually constructed of bold beaded strips, as is the oval finial. The stepped domed cover also displays a gadrooned band. The front of the main body is engraved with a Crest, with garter surround, containing the Motto Finis Coronat Opus - The end crowns the work.
The Tureens are fully marked in the foot and on the cover. Both are of exceptional quality, as one would expect from this silversmith, and have a very good colour. Round Tureens seldom come onto the market and this is the first time we have seen this very unusual beaded design. The work of Peter Podio is not common, however is always of the finest quality in terms of design and production.
