A rare George III "Raying Shell" Vinaigrette made in Birmingham in 1805 by Matthew Linwood

The Vinaigrette is silver gilt and the cover and base are finely modelled as a raying shell and the sides are decorated with reeding. Once opened the interior reveals one of Linwood's cast simulated filigree grilles. This particular grille has a central oval where the simulated filigree scrolls have been modelled as a flower head. The box is in quite excellent condition and is fully marked on the bezel.
As you will appreciate, this is a pretty and rare design which seldom appears on the market. Due to the scarcity of the design, a similar example is shown in "Silver Boxes" by Eric Delieb, page 148, plate 238 and the page is attached.
