The forks are modelled in the Hanoverian Three Pronged design and the top of each stem is engraved with a contemporary Crest. The Forks are in excellent condition and have a length of 7.5 inches. Considering their weight, they weigh a total of 25oz. Each fork is engraved with the crest of Campbell of Aberuchill to the reverse: a lion affrontée gules, crowned with laurel and holding in the dexter paw a sword proper, hilted and pommelled or, and in the sinister a dag or highland pistol, also proper (a red lion facing the viewer, crowned with laurel leaves and holding in the right paw a sword, in natural colours with a gold hilt and pommel, and, in the left paw, a dag or highland pistol, also in natural colours).
This is the crest of Sir James Campbell, 2nd Baronet of Aberuchill: of Aberuchill, Perthshire and Kilbryde Castle, Perthshire. The 1st Baronet of Aberuchill, also named James, was a staunch loyalist and always adhered firmly to the interests of the royal cause: in 1651 he accompanied King Charles II to the battle of Worcester, where he was slain in battle.
Aberuchill Castle lies to the south of the River Earn, two miles south west of Comrie, Perthshire: the original fortalice was built in the late 16th Century by Colin, second son of Campbell of Lawers, who received a Crown Charter for the lands in 1596. During the 19th century, the building was enlarged in the Scottish baronial style. Their other Scottish Seat was Kilbryde Castle, Dunblane, Perthshire.
