A rare Charles II Patch Box made in London in 1678, with makers mark of RS.

This rare Rose Patch Box was made in London in 1678 and is stamped with the makers mark of RS which is illustrated on page 135 of Jacksons Gold & Silver Marks. The Box is circular in form, with pull off cover, and is of a large size for this period. The base is engraved with a set of contemporary scratch engraved initials and the cover with a beautiful rose motif with a reeded edge. The box is fully marked in the base and with the makers mark and sterling mark on the cover. These boxes are extremely rare and are usually only marked with the makers mark. This is one of the earliest fully marked boxes, we have offered over the years.
