This extremely rare piece is modelled as a barrel with raised vertical bands to simulate the metal bands of the barrel. Unusually one end opens up to reveal the Vinaigrette section with a gilded interior and hinged grille pierced and engraved with scrolls and foliate motifs. The opposite end opens up to reveal the deep gilded snuff compartment and the top unscrews so that the remaining section could be filled with scent. This is a particularly rare design, in that it serves three different purposes. The work of Sampson Mordan is exceptional and very often is modelled in unusual designs. This piece is of a very good weight and gauge and is in excellent condition. It is very well marked on each end and is engraved with the retailers mark of Cooper, 41, St. James's Street, London. A very rare quality piece.

Length: 1.9 inches, 4.75cm.
