The Vinaigrette depicts a very unusual view of Abbotsford House which is seldom seen. This is considered as a third version of the view and appears die struck on card cases and vinaigrettes marked by Willmore, until at least 1844/45. This version copies "Abbotsford : the seat of Sir Walter Scott Bart." An engraving by W.H. Lizars first published by Lizars in Edinburgh in 1832. This view has more rounded arches below to the curtain wall and only small trees and shrubs visible in the east court foreground with a peacock perched on a garden roller in the centre. The view is surrounded by a cast foliate scroll border which is repeated on the thumb piece and base. The sides and base are decorated with engine turned engraving and the base also displays a vacant rectangular cartouche. The interior opens up to reveal a very finely gilded interior and a hinged grille pierced and engraved with pluming scrolls and a central flower head, all contained within a bright cut frame. The Vinaigrette is in excellent condition and is very well marked on the cover, in the base and also with the maker's mark and sterling mark on the underside of the grille.
