The Wine Label is one of the rarest designs to be found by Hester Bateman and displays a pierced out ovolo border decorated with bright cutting and reeding. The oval face is engraved with the title of MADEIRA surrounded by a double reeded border and foliate sprays. The label is in excellent condition and is very well marked on the reverse with the maker's mark and sterling mark. Near identical examples, engraved for Claret and Rum, are shown in "Wine Labels 1730-2003, A Worldwide History", page 147 and 148.
