A very fine pair of William IV Wine Coasters made in London in 1837 by Edward Farrell

The Coasters have high sides which display a wavy dipping gadrooned rim.  The sides are of a thick gauge and are pierced with geometric and foliate scroll designs.  The spreading base displays a crisp set of clear marks and both have their original turned fruitwood bases.  Farrell was an outstanding maker and made much of the famous silver collection for the Duke of York, the most remarkable being the Hercules Candelabrum, made for the Duke in 1822.
