The Wine Coasters are circular in form with wavy dipping gadrooned rims.  The sides are beautifully pierced and engraved with bold scroll work and raying flower heads.  The front of each piece displays a shaped cartouche engraved with a contemporary Crest issuing from the Coronet of a Duke.  Each piece is marked in the piercing and they have their original turned fruitwood bases, below a corded band.  Thomas Nash was a specialist pierced worker of fine quality, who specialised in the production of wine coasters and serving slices.  Coasters were first introduced into England during the 1760's, therefore these represent a very rare early example, made in a most beautiful style.  It is also interesting to see that Thomas Nash has used his incuse maker's mark, which is where the silversmith engraves his initials, rather than striking them with a punch.

Height: 1.75 inches.
