HESTER BATEMAN. A very fine George III "Boat" shaped Basket made in London in 1790 by Hester Bateman.

The Basket is of an unusually large size and is "Boat" shaped in form. This example stands on a pedestal foot which is decorated with reeding and prick dot bands. The slightly everted rim is also decorated with reeding, as is the arched swing handle. The main body is pierced with an upper band of trailing scrolls and flowerheads, in addition to flower heads in roundels. The sides are also engraved with prick dot scrolls and floral garlands, as well as a vacant bright cut cartouche. The basket has a blue glass liner and is fully marked in the foot and with the sterling mark on the handle.
